"Strange Return Home" 03/20/05 I had been in some kind of jail. It was a large cement and cinderblock building with chain link fencing separating different areas. I was able to move freely among the areas, but as I walked around I noticed that there were only men there and they were all wearing gray jumpsuits. I even thought I recognized one of the men from the last time I had been there. I came home and sat in the living room with my mother and brother. My mother was very mean to me and either ignored me or yelled at me. However, my brother was nice. He was holding a white packet of papers that he been saving for me until I came home. Then he vomited on the paper and my mother took it and ran it under water in the sink in an attempt to save the document. My brother and I went outside and saw one of my parents' neighbors outside with his boat, which was decorated with rainbow colors. Then the man's wife came outside wearing a bright yellow shirt and began some type of argument with him. My brother commented that my boat would match with the neighbor's boat. I told my brother that I didn't own a boat, but my brother told me that I had a rowboat. I was unsure why my rowboat would be decorated in rainbow colors, but I didn't think about it further because I was distracted by events across the street. There was some kind of slalom in another neighbor's yard, so my brother and I decided to go on it once. It almost seemed like a giant water park slide covered in ice, which was strange because there was no snow on the ground and people were wearing summer clothes. There was a radio announcer who said that one woman had been on this ride the most times. I told my brother that we couldn't go on the ride again because he'd get sick again. I went to leave, but I couldn't seem to find my way home because there was a pattern of wooden stairs and campy music from the 70s that was distracting. Eventually I went through a hatch in the floor and found myself in F's room. She was apparently a Girl Scout. And she had a small radio that she told me was a laughing radio. Apparently she had a modern radio that played a track of Michael Jackson laughing, and then she put that radio inside a tiny antique case. It looked very nice. I felt weird to be there, like I was in the Swiss Family Robinson tree house. "At a Zoo with Diego and Travis" 03/19/05 Diego and I were staying in a very dark hotel room that was apparently attached to a very dark zoo. I didn't particularly want to go to the zoo, especially since there wasn't enough lighting, but I agreed to go because we were on vacation, and I didn't particularly want to stay in our hotel room either. We were walking down a long hallway in the zoo when Diego said he was going to go to another area to look at a snake. I stayed in the main hallway area. A few minutes later I felt a hand on my shoulder. I assumed that it was Diego, but when I turned around I saw that Travis had touched my shoulder, which caused me to gasp. I felt terrified that Travis had just shown up at the zoo where Diego and I were. Diego came over and shook Travis' hand. Diego was acting more social than he ever had in real life. This, in addition to finding out Travis had been following me in a dark zoo scared me. Diego and Travis were making plans for the three of us to go out for drinks, but I really just wanted to go home. "Debate About Medical Maladroit" 03/19/05 I was in high school and my high school class was going on a field trip with my mother as one of the chaperones. Unfortunately our trip was delayed because there was a Department of Transportation dispute and the bus drivers were refusing to drive us until the dispute was resolved. I went in to talk to one of the drivers, hoping to smooth things over, but she was very hostile towards me. As I was leaving her office, I noticed a stain on the light blue shirt I was wearing, so I passed by my locker and changed into a hot pink tank top. My mother showed up and I asked her if she could hold my purse during the field trip or at least put my keys and wallet in her purse. I knew that we were going to an amusement park and was worried that either items would fall out of my purse while I was on rides, or the silver ring I always wear would fly off my finger. My mother and I went to a living room area while we waited for the bus drivers. One of my current neighbors at my apartment was there. He was playing some alternative music, which I loved. I asked him who it was and he said it was Medical Maladroit. He said there was a debate whether Medical Maladroit would win a Grammy or whether Limp Bizkit would instead. I told him that Limp Bizkit was from Jacksonville, the city where my mother lives. My neighbor starting talking about Limp Bizkit more and more, but I told him that I didn't think Limp Bizkit was going to with the Grammy because Medical Maladroit was so much better. I realized that I needed to call Jillian to tell her about Medical Maladroit. I thought she would think the name was funny. "A Cast Named Julius" 03/10/05 I was attempting to get out of my car, which surprisingly was not my car but an orange car that looked like it was from the early '80s, and walk down the sidewalk. I was having some difficulty when I looked down and saw that there was a white cast on one of my legs, as if I'd broken a bone. I continued walking, but I was having great difficulty when I realized that this cast was named after Julius. Somehow I eventually made it to my grandmother's house, where I met a boy who happens to be the same height as Julius. The boy was putting magnetic poetry on the refrigerator. Most things appeared to be math formulae that I couldn't understand, but there was a vertical series of the names Mary, Elaine, and Martin. I asked the boy what those names meant and he told me that Julius had thought he was a dog when he was a child and Mary Elaine Martin was the name of the woman that had told Julius he was not actually a dog. |
